Hi, my name is Nick Brasier. I am a Native Texan, but New Orleanian by heart, who joined the Nevada Conservation Corps this year to participate in a fun and unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in the conservation field. My passion for the environment began at a young age. As a child I was obsessed with Captain Planet, Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax,” and camping with the Boy Scouts. Throughout high school I became increasingly active in my scout troop. The more time I spent outdoors, the more I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life out there. When it came time to prepare for college I realized that what I wanted most was to find work protecting and enhancing natural areas for many generations down the line to experience and enjoy. I chose to attend Tulane University in 2006. I was a member of the first freshmen class post-Katrina. I was fortunate enough to witness and participate in the revival of one of the most dynamic cities in our nation. As a student I pursued an ambitious degree program working towards two separate degrees. In 2010 I graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Biology and a B.A. in Environmental Studies. I hope to use the degrees to secure a career in the resource and wildlife management field. Ultimately I see myself running a National Park or Wildlife Refuge, though there is still a long way to go. Outside of work I enjoy taking hikes at Red Rock Canyon or climbing at Mt. Charleston with other crew members. I’m an avid reader and devour several crosswords a day. Bird watching is another of my favorite past times, especially here in the West where many of the species are new to me. I hope this has helped you get to know me a little better.
